Put-in-Bay Bar Shooting: One Dead, Suspect Charged with Murder After Fatal Incident at Mr. Ed’s Bar & Grille

A fatal shooting at Mr. Ed’s Bar & Grille in Put-in-Bay, Ohio, has left one man dead and prompted a major law enforcement investigation. Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following the incident, which occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday, July 23, marking the first homicide on the island in more than a decade.

According to the Put-in-Bay Police Department, officers and emergency medical personnel responded to reports of a shooting at Mr. Ed’s Bar & Grille, located in the 200 block of Delaware Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found a 39-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the establishment.

At approximately 3:40 a.m., authorities located and arrested 21-year-old Colton Smith of Brownstown, Michigan. He has been charged with murder and was transported to the Ottawa County Jail. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting. The business announced it would temporarily close while cooperating fully with investigators and reviewing its operations.
